Together with Alexianer: More safety and relief in everyday care

Digital technologies cannot replace care staff, but they can help make everyday care safer, more efficient, and more human-centered. That is exactly what we work on at Nemlia every single day.

Together with Alexianer, one of Germany’s largest faith-based healthcare and social service organizations, we are bringing sensor-based assistance systems further into everyday care. The goal of the collaboration is to provide targeted relief for care staff while also increasing safety for patients and residents.

The technology is installed directly at care beds or room doors and detects unusual movement patterns in real time. This makes it possible to identify situations where support may be needed, for example during nighttime bed exits, extended stays in the bathroom, or when a person leaves their room.

The information is sent immediately to care staff’s mobile devices, enabling fast and situation-specific responses.

Especially for elderly people or individuals with cognitive impairments, the solution can make an important contribution to fall prevention and the early detection of critical situations, particularly in unfamiliar environments such as hospitals.

“We can adapt the sensors individually to the needs of our patients and residents. The new technology works discreetly in the background and integrates seamlessly into existing care processes. Care staff are relieved because relevant information is available directly and without detours.”

At Nemlia, one principle is always central: technology must support people without limiting their dignity or privacy. That is why the systems operate entirely without cameras. No images are captured, and no personal data is stored or shared. The solution is based solely on the analysis of movement patterns and pressure changes.

“Care staff perform an enormous task every single day. Our role is to support them with intelligent technology. With our sensor-based solution, we create greater safety for patients without interfering with their privacy. Together with Alexianer, we show how digital innovation can provide concrete support in everyday care — discreetly, reliably, and with real value for everyone involved.”

— Peer Bentzen, CEO of Nemlia

The implementation of the sensor technology will initially begin on selected pilot wards within Alexianer facilities. In the long term, a gradual expansion to additional locations is planned.

For us, the collaboration once again shows that digital innovation works best when it integrates seamlessly into existing workflows and creates real value for people — for care staff, patients, and relatives alike.
